Q: Which countries do you serve for international freight shipments?

We have presence in all countries through our partner networks. Please let us know your frequent origin and destination ports. We are in Africa, Europe, UK, USA, Canada, Australia, China, India, Japan and many more.

Q: How long does it take you to provide international freight and shipping estimates?

We respond with in the shortest time possible, we will need you to confirm shipping terms and provide commercial invoice and packing list for quotation purposes.

Q: What shipping documents do I need?

Documents you need vary depending on commodity being shipped. On most occasions you will require the following documents:

  • Export and import
  • Commercial invoice
  • Packing list
  • We will process airway bill or house airway bill for air shipments
  • We process Bill of lading or house bill of lading.
Q: Do you ship vehicles, heavy equipment and overweight/oversize machinery?

Yes we do. We require detailed packing list with dimensions and weight of the vehicle or Machinery. Shipping overweight and oversize cargo requires planning in advance to ensure the best shipping option is provided for our customers.

Q: How much are customs duties and taxes?

Customs duties and taxes are not standard, these vary based on commodity, country and value of the shipment.

Q: What are incoterms?

Incoterms is an abbreviation of International Commercial Terms, which was first published in 1936 by the International Chamber of Commerce. There have been several revisions and updates to the incoterms. Incoterms provide a common set of rules used in international trade. The terms define who is obligated to take control and /or insure goods during at any shipping stage. These terms also outline the obligations for clearance of goods for export or import

Q: How long does custom clearance take?

All Factors held constant, clearance takes 2-4 days from the date of cargo availability at the clearance station.

Q: How is customs duty calculated in Kenya?

Based on the East Africa Common Tariff. Each product is classified and taxed as per the tariff.

Q: What is the role of KEBS in regards to importation into Kenya?

To regulate the standard of goods to ensure it meets the set standards for importation into the country.

Q: Can I clear my containers in Mombasa as opposed to Nairobi ICD?

It depends with the consignee registered address in the KRA Pin.

Q: What does a custom clearing agent do?

Represents the importer and the Revenue Authority in tax collection and clearance of goods

Q: What is the role of KEPHIS in Kenya?

Their roles are control of all plant products, both imports & exports.

Q: What are the estimated port cost for vessel carrying bulk 50,000 MT Clinker/Slug/Gypsum/Coal?

Costs about 45000 – 50000 USD depending on the vessel’s particulars. We would need right documentation for a precise quotation.

Q: Do you offer Bunkers supply?

Yes we do, Charges are subject to ERC

Q: Bagging of cargo at the port?

Bagging services available at port we do bagging fertilizers.

Q: Do you offer inland transport services?

Yes we offer transport services within Kenya and to the region. From Mombasa we transport to Uganda, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi. Customized transport services available to East Africa countries.

Q: What are the Port working days?

Mombasa Port operates 24 Hours, Sundays and Public Holidays included. BIMCO Holidays are observed as well.

Q: Does the port charge overtime?

No Mombasa Port does not charge overtime

Yes we offer upon request, same can be supplied either by truck alongside or stream barge.
